Cyrano Stool

Cyrano Stool

(Detachable Back)

75 H (with back) x 92 W x 50 D cm

Seat Height: 46 cm

This stool was used as scenery for the original production of Cyrano de Bergerac at the Comédie Française, in a staging by Pierre Dux in 1938. After that it "performed" in all revivals of that work up until the new production by Jacques Charon in 1964. With its robust bearing it seems straight out of a fairy tale illustration. It is easy to imagine it put to multiple uses: in the tavern it slides under the table and Cyrano leans on it to declam his "nose tirade". He sits on it to write his impassioned letter to Roxane. It has seen many changes and, since it is a "colourful" character we have taken that expression literally and depicted it in 7 different colours.
